We are scientists and artists who value sustainability, transparency, and honor the infinite connection with nature expressed through what we put into and onto our bodies.

We desired a product which was pure and made from edible oils, sourced directly from cooperatives, and left our skin feeling nourished and soft, without feeling greasy.  We couldn't find anything in the marketplace that could offer these requirements, so we began to work on our first product to fill the gap, a General Salve
.
At this time I was managing the supply chain and product development for a personal care ingredients company and witnessing the ways personal care products were manufactured. This access facilitated insights about what was included in these products, and what was left out. Over several months we developed and perfected a product, accessing my chemistry and supply chain experience to fine tune our General Salve.
.
After 18 iterations, we had created what we envisioned: a sustainable and ethically sourced, naturally processed, utilitarian, unisex, beautifully designed, 100% plant and seed oil based semi-solid.
.
We created both our brand, Samuel Ethnobotanics and our product, General Salve No. 18 so we could ensure radical transparency in ingredient sourcing, could guarantee a product without fillers or chemicals, and to fine tune the formulation based on performance of skin feel, above all else.
.
With our brand, Samuel Ethnobotanics, we desire to bring to people many different traditional and ethnobotanical relationships, from all around the world.  Our goal is to push the category towards a more pure and natural product that draws on the wisdom of nature before then the ingenuity of man, rather than the other way around.
.
Our intention is to continue developing and highlighting a network of partnerships with cooperative growers and ultimately to make them stakeholders in the company. We have started and continue to build a community of cooperatives to connect the seeds, the harvesters, and the consumers.
